delegate – verb – “to entrust to another”, “to assign responsibility or authority”
I’ve been talking about delegation a fair bit recently, across a broad spectrum of coaching clients, so much so that I’ve developed a printable toolkit that supports someone who is working on their delegation skills, or leading a new team and is in the stage of working out who can do what.
For anyone that is struggling to delegate I’d offer you this – by holding on to tasks that should and could be done by someone else you are creating your own false ceiling in terms of your performance – there is only one of you, and you have finite time and energy.
You are also depriving your team of potentially valuable development opportunities – and the chance for them to show you what they can do with the right level of support and empowerment.
